6 Traditions for your Wedding Reception

You have worked hard to make your wedding day a success; you have planned for the ceremony, you have a dress, and you have been working on decorations. Now, it is time to think about getting a photographer for the reception. Of course, you could ask a friend or family member to snap some pictures, but this is your big special day, and it is the biggest party of your life! You want to make sure your photographer knows how to capture special moments and traditions. Here are some reception traditions you may be interested in getting pictures of on your wedding day:

1. Introducing the Wedding Party

At the beginning of your reception you want your DJ/MC to introduce the wedding party. Each bridesmaid and groomsman can partner up for this and be introduced together – this is just a formality, they can be introduced together whether they are a couple or not. Or they can be introduced separately if they feel uncomfortable walking together. At the end of the wedding party, you and your new spouse will be announced as husband and wife for the first time.

2. Toasts

Your Best Man, Maid of Honor, and sometimes the parents will want to make toasts in your honor. Make sure someone is ready to capture the tears and laughter of these speeches: you won’t want to forget these moments.

3. First Dance

Make sure you take time to pick the right song and make sure someone is taking lots of pictures of your first dance together.

4. Cutting the Cake

5. Bouquet or Garter Toss

Play the ‘Single Ladies’ song, Why? Because tossing the bouquet to a group of single women is another time-honored wedding reception tradition you will not want to pass up.

A wedding reception tradition that always elicits red faces, giggles, and loud laughs is the retrieval of the garter. This is especially true if the groom goes for the garter with his teeth. After he gets the garter, he then throws it to a pack of single men. These are classic moments you will not want to miss.

6. Big Exit

Don’t forget to have pictures taken of your big exit! Especially if guests are blowing bubbles or throwing glitter as you run.

Remember to make a list of the traditions you will be doing, and what order you will do them in, so that your photographer is prepared. Please contact us today to discuss hiring a professional photographer for your big day.

The Landing at Dockside Wedding

We truly love photographing beautiful weddings at The Landing at Dockside!  Emma and Simon were both getting ready in the Dockside Apartments (above where they were to be married) which made it fabulously easy with everybody in the one place.  Emma looked stunning in her unique gown and fascinator, and gorgeous protea bouquet.  We can’t forget the boys too, Simon dapper in his 3 piece navy suit, finished off with a tie pin.  Very nice!

The ceremony was held on the lovely lawn between their reception room and the Brisbane River and family and friends were able to witness the couple exchange vows with the Story Bridge as a backdrop.  It’s always a winner!  We left Dockside only briefly for some fun photographs with the bridal party in Brisbane’s City Botanic Gardens, then dropped back to the River Room at The Landing which was styled simply and elegantly with black and white details.  It was a super fun night of speeches, fabulous food, and dancing… oh we love weddings at The Landing at Dockside!!

Trying to choose a wedding venue in Brisbane by the river?  Speak to Penny and the team at The Landing at Dockside and tell them SilverEdge Photography sent you!

Stamford Plaza Wedding Ceremony

The Stamford Plaza is such a beautiful riverfront venue, and many couples choose to have their reception at this lovely grand hotel, but have you considered having your wedding ceremony on the lawn ?  Kylee and Rob chose to and it such a lovely afternoon.  It’s really beautiful, and the guests can see the Brisbane River and the iconic Story Bridge in the distance too.  A nice way to show off our fabulous city if you have any guests travelling from afar.

Why you should hire a professional photographer

Your wedding is one of the most special days of your life, so of course you want to have great photographs of the occasion to look back on. But wedding photography is about more than just hiring a friend to take good pictures, or even a professional photographer. It’s about hiring a photographer that will go above and beyond to make your day extra special and having a real connection with.

First, we meet with you and get to know you and your fiance a little better. This is the time to tell us all about you, your relationship, and the upcoming wedding. We’ll want to get an idea of the setting we’ll be working with on your special day. This is also the time to discuss pricing options and design a package that will work for you.

Before you take that first step, you may be wondering if it’s worth it to hire a professional. Take it from the countless people whose weddings we have worked before – it is. Here a just a few reasons hiring a professional photographer will make your wedding day go smoothly:

1. Your friends and family can enjoy the moment

Sure you can task a friend or family member with the job of picture-taking, but this takes away from their experience at your wedding. You want all of your wedding guests to be focused on your big day, not on taking pictures the whole time.

2. Your pictures will turn out better

Let’s face it: professional photographers are just that – professionals. Anyone can take a picture but it takes an expert to know what lighting looks best, how to frame a photo, and how to work with a complex camera. Our photographers have over ten years of experience to bring to the table.

3. Professional photographers are experienced and fully invested in making your wedding day one to remember

It takes a certain amount of professionalism to be engaging with guests to get great pictures while still blending in and not being too invasive. Professional photographers have done this many times before, and know exactly how to handle the task.

When you hire a professional, you ensure you’ll get to relax on your big day while an experienced photographer takes care of all the pictures. They will make sure to capture all the details that you or your wedding planner took so much time to plan, and overall help make sure your wedding is the perfect day you’re hoping for. Contact us today for more information and to start your wedding photography experience!
